DFRPG: Apocalyptic NYC

Session 5 Recap

We physically moved to Cranberry Cafe.

The team went to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens to find Lily and the seat of the Summer Court. A centaur led them through the lilac patch through some trees (into the fey?) and arrived at an ornate wooden door at which point they went through and met Lily.

Lily asked them to deal with an issue where there were reports of plant monsters attacking innocents in prospect park. The team was tasked with ensuring no innocents died and to bring back proof that they stopped the problem and who caused the problem. In exchange they could ask her 3 questions.

The team ran over to prospect park and failed to find anything interesting for 12 hours, at which time (midnight) Walker finally heard some screams and saw elderly joggers running from shrubbery. Walker went to check out who was causing it and found a girl crying/mumbling to herself about how she didn’t mean for this to happen. He then went and informed the team.

At this point the team successfully (with way too many injuries than should have been sustained) thwarted and banished all but 1 of the plant monsters. 1 plant monster escaped.

Sally was the sorcerer that summoned them and has joined the party very repentant. She successfully banished one of the monsters with a massive 8 stress counterspell. Zack decided that was a bit too much power for him to push into any counterspells of his own. So continued desicating and burning monsters.

Walker and Zack quickly found a good combo by using fire attacks after Zack dried the monsters out a bit activating the monsters’ catch. Scott ran around like a little girl and helped save some elderly people. Comfort continued to go toe to toe with the monsters and eventually found a riding lawnmower to put her driving skills and high vehicular carnage to use.

A few elderly were knocked out but none were killed outright. The one monster did get away so may cause further harm in the future.

Everyone was quite beat up, most having up to moderate consequences and so piled on the lawnmower to head back to Lily’s. They drove past the Brooklyn Museum and Sally told them about the Scroll she needs to procure from within. Ms. Mallon and 2 goons approached the crew with an offer though Walker tried to attack first and ask questions later. Fortunately, since he was beat up, he wasn’t able to do much. Sally also put up a solid block to keep him from continuing to attack. Ms. Mallon attempted to use a trigger word to calm down Walker but failed and Scott recognized the attempted trigger word warning her to chill out.

Mary offered to smooth over any ruffles with the Summer Court since, if they want their 3 questions answered, they would have to turn over Sally, if Walker would come with her and submit himself to further testing.

We left off here with the group needing to decide what path to go…
1) turn in Sally, get their 3 questions and avoid Mary
2) don’t turn in Sally, lose their 3 questions and avoid Mary
3) don’t turn in Sally, keep their 3 questions and go with Mary
4) if you think of other options, please have fun

Please decide on the option you want to take before next we meet and let me know at least the Saturday before as Saturdays are when I usually brainstorm any still missing story/combat scenes. Also, if you want to ask the 3 questions, please let me know what those are before-hand.

Session 4 Recap

I should have put this up before now but lifes been crazy.

Wizard was still incommunicado :) School sucks.

Our merry band ventured to the dregs of Staten Island and found the Ghouls. The fought The Ghoul leader and two ‘henchmen’. They weren’t your standard henchmen because they took some hits before going down.

Namely, those hits were by a crane swnging cars through the air. The band actually subdued all 3 ghouls and forced/convinced the leader to confess to hiring the Neko girls.

Walker and Comfort both got pretty beat up, but did manage to score a clunker to drive home. Scott kept out of the fray operating the crane most of the time.

Scott was released after Jong Hee confessed to hiring the Neko Girls and the Commissioner might be under scrutiny for letting the guilty party go when originally captured.

Session 3 Recap

Here’s a recap of last Sunday’s game:

  • Our wizard still seems to be incommunicado :)
  • Walker woke up in the hospital after running in front of a police car. His Cassandras tears gave him a vision of mysterious men coming for him. The nurses etc wouldn’t believe him and wanted him to stay in bed. The police came and talked to him and were going to call out to a Psych ward because they didn’t believe his ramblings about the men coming for him. Walker successfully flew out the window however (not something the police were expecting, nor the GM). He went back to his place and met up with comfort.
  • Scott found himself and the other ‘conspirator’ locked up downtown. The conspirator was released within hours; and Scott is believed to be the person who instigated the bombing incident.

Comfort and Walker go to the Horror House owner and tell him about Scott. He reaches out to contacts to spring SCott, because he (Vincent) needs Scott as the main man at his HAlloween PArty that night (hosting for the REd Court and friends)

A high powered defense attorney comes to Scott’s aide suggesting he is a close friend of the Mayor and quickly posted bail and released Scott. Scott was taken to the Waldorf where he had a suite all to himself with private masseuse. He picked up a ‘piece’ delivered by Janus through Door-Gateways. The attorney was quick to remind Scott that he was merely posting bail. Without a new scapegoat or the real guilty party found and brought in within 7 days, Scott will likely go down for the terrorist bombing. The attorney is merely buying Scott time.

Comfort and Walker go to the party dressed as a horse hamming it up at the party the entire time. Scott goes as a cliche Dracula. There’s lots of migling and people meeting, I’ll try to summarize the key points below:

  1. The police commissioner believe SCott is guilty and also seems to have close ties with the Summer Court
  2. Lily (Summer Lady) is sympathetic to Scott and offers him further exchanges of services in the future
  3. Walker and Comfort find themselves in a brief confrontation with a red court in the ladies bathroom; however, Comfort is just way too quick for this red court and the red court is rather stunned by that
  4. Scott and Alton speak and Alton confirms that he is behind securing Scott’s release and that Scott better deliver
  5. Mavra and the Mayor seem to be close.
  6. Mavra asks Janus to send a note to a ghoul that they need to finish the job and make sure someone else is pinned for it. Walker follows Janus through his gateways to the Landfills and overhears the conversation between Janus and the Ghoul.
  7. Mary Mallon confronts Walker about going home with her. Mary is very creepy about wanting to bring Walker home to where he belongs.
  8. Comfort finds out at some point that the REds sprung Scott and that they are essentially working for the Reds, which causes her to leave the party in a huff.

Session ended after everyone left the party as there are several possible routes for the players to go and they all likely were combat encounters.

Session 2 recap

I’m typing this from my phone, so let’s see how long this is – not to mention what I remember.

We started with walker in a trap of his own making. He found himself alone in a room with the mysterious stranger that met with the pastor. The stranger casually picked up a book case to block the “door” upstairs then told the emptiness that he knew someone was there. Walker flitted through the cracks and explored the house. He found himself in a mini mansion. Eventually the stranger cam uostairs looking for him. Walker found the place unlived in though did find several locked doors that he couldn’t get past. He went back to the basement and found an old book that gave him the vibe of the unholy bible. Walker had to move a desk the stranger put over the trap door which alerted the stranger. Walker fled passing off the book to Scott.

There was a bunch of story fluff that I don’t fully remember.

Everyone woke up the next day to find that a small bomb had gone off in Yankee stadium. The police were on it though the team checked things out sneaking into the site. They found out that comforts old gang was the culprit. They staked out the gangs old spot but didn’t find them. A few days later once the police left. The team staked out Yankee stadium and noticed two vans pull in. One pulled around to the other side of the building, both pulling up to service entrances. The close entrance had a ghoul, the leader of the memo gang, and 4 flunkies. Two were required to lug the heavy bomb around. The other side had a ghoul and 2-3 flunkies. The team had an epic battle stopping them. Walker called the cops. Comfort drove away with a bomb in one van, driving the car into the river right before it blew. Walker jumped in front of a police car to ensure comfort got away with the bomb. Scott drug the other bomb into the showers in the locker rooms after playing looney toons with way more powerful people than he should have dealt with alone. The cops showed up and the showers successfully broke the other bomb so it didn’t go off.

Session 1 Recap

A brief synopsis of what happened so I/we don’t forget. If anyone else wants to take up this task, I would happily leave off.

Our characters started at a warehouse after-party hosted by Cy Vyong. A mysterious stranger approached Scott Timore (accent on the e) about helping him with a new Haunted House venture in midtown NYC — Scott agreed.

The party was broken up by 2 uzi wielding dark clad figures and 2 mangy beasts. The party later confirmed that these were in fact renfields and dark hounds. The dark hounds were chased off, while the 2 renfields were captured, one was released, one was killed.

Cy asked the party to help find a safer place for her and those she protects to retreat to in the case of further Black Court growth and incursion. Specifically, she’s looking for somewhere witha strong threshold that she and hers can fall back to. She needs a place and a way to get there.

The party went just a few stops north on the Q to Flatbush Reformed Dutch Church Complex. They found and talked with the pastor who was welcoming and was happy to open up the gymnasium as the complex was used to housing refugees from Sandy and had cots etc available.

I’m a little vague on what all happened here, but someone snuck into the pastors quarters and found a bronze old-fashioned key similar to that found on the 2 renfields.

At this point the party split up. Scott and Walker followed the pastor down into a sewer/underground system beneath the church, then an hour plus away, the pastor went up a trap door. Scott stayed outside waiting. Walker rode in on the Pastor’s coat-tails. Then stayed when the pastor left. Scott followed the pastor back to the church(?).

Zack went to see his former teacher and confirmed the identity of the renfields etc. Mrs Delores Fitzbottom(?) suggested he take the key to Janus as he might know more about it.

Meanwhile, Comfort went to see Tillinghast on her ‘day off’. He ranted as always, but certainly went on about something happening to the current yankee stadium to cause the old yankee stadium to be rebuilt/used. He is in league with some mysterious group that he’s helping out somehow.

Zack and Comfort meet up to go see Janus. Janus doesn’t recognize the key but provides some information when Zack agrees to give Janus the key. Janus tells them that it is a typical peons special access key from Eastern Europe.
